Bridal Accessories: When is it too much? Bridal Accessories: When is it too much?
by Kate Mendelsen

On the day of the wedding, you've got every single person eyeing you on the biggest day of your life. The wedding dress is a masterpiece just by itself, it should complement you as the saying "The bride wears the gown, not the gown dressing up the bride." Though it is the most visible part of the ensemble, wearing the gown alone isn't appropriate as well. But then a mismatched combination of the different bridal accessories isn't good either.

The staple of the bridal ensemble consists of the wedding dress, the shoes, the veil and the jewelry. The gown is another science of its own while the shoes are actually a question of comfort. The veil on the other hand is a symbol of the bride's sincerity and purity but then the meaning has changed into more of a fashion statement for modern couples. A few years back, veils went out of style due to its stiffness and puffiness which goes against the natural look brides usually go for. Veils back then were too long to carry around before and after the ceremony. The materials used were also too thick for the bride's face to be seen so the photographers had a hard time focusing on the bride's facial expression while it was covered. The style evolved to the thin, silky veils we use nowadays which look soft and flowing against the wedding dress. Different cuts were also introduced to fit the varied looks a bride could go for. Since veils are indeed an icon of the bride, it is usually recommended to don a veil during the wedding ceremony.

On top of the veil, crowns the crowning glory of the bride - the bridal tiara. Tiaras have been a part of the bride's look since she is the princess or the queen of that very special day. If you think that this detail isn't so important, drop by a wedding shop and try a tiara on top of a veil. It is supposed to tie in together the gown, veil and hairstyle. Be sure to match the tiara with the gown, if you are going for pearls then get one with pearls. If your gown has a lot of details, make sure to get a simple but elegant tiara to balance it out. You only get one chance to wear a tiara in public, why not wear it on your own wedding day?

Other optional wedding accessories may include a set of earrings, a necklace, bridal gloves or bracelets. As for the earrings, necklace and bracelet, it is actually a question of style and appropriateness. Considering the veil and the tiara, other jewelry may be kept simple to highlight the gown and complement the blushing bride's face instead.
Bridal gloves are in style especially during fall and winter, wherein weddings tend to be more formal since they are set indoors. Be sure to get the exact correct size for your hands, have it altered to fit your hands snugly. The last thing you would want is for the wedding ring to slip out of your finger during the photo session. But keep in mind that since you are adding another detail to the outfit, some parts should be kept minimal.
