Wedding Superstitions - Shaking Off the Bad, Ushering the Good

Wedding Superstitions - Shaking Off the Bad, Ushering the Good
By Regina Watson

Just as the actual wedding itself is filled with different kinds of rituals-no matter what church you belong to-there are also a lot of wedding superstitions and traditions that you are forced to follow. They are meant to bring good or bad-luck, depending on what they mean. Moreover, if you think that you're trapped in a country filled with those, check on the list below, and you'd realize there's a lot more you don't know about:

It's raining sweets. The word "confetti" comes from Italy, and there it literally means sweet. You can usually see them during weddings where guests and family members would shower newlyweds with not just only flowers or petals but even raisins and nuts. The act was to signify fertility and abundance all throughout their wedded life.

Soak in the sun. In Scotland, fertility is one of the important issues that need to be addressed and met during marriage. Thus, to ensure that the wife would bring forth children, she's made to walk together with the sun. During summertime, she needs to walk from eastern to western direction, at the southern portion of the church, and then around it for three consecutive times.

She's all dressed in white. Today, girls can wear their gowns in different shades. Even celebrities have walked down in the aisles in pink, blue, gold, and even black. But if you're going to trace down history and the list of wedding superstitions, you know that girls should be wearing white-and it's for a reason. It's meant to symbolize maidenhood. A lot of girls-and families, if the ladies don't want it-would still love to go for white than any other color.

There are still several people who would follow them to a T just so they can scrape the bad luck off their marriage life. You can too, but keep in mind that marriage is still all about hard work and commitment to each other. If you don't have these, with wedding superstitions or none of them, your marriage is doomed to failure.
