They are meant to bring good or bad-luck, depending on what they mean. You can usually see them during weddings where guests and family members would shower newlyweds with not just only flowers or petals but even raisins and nuts. The act was to signify fertility and abundance all throughout their wedded life.

Soak in the sun. In Scotland, fertility is one of the important issues that need to be addressed and met during marriage.
