Wedding Superstitions to Make You Smile
By Amanda Jane
Getting married is not all hustle and bustle. It can also be fun and mind-boggling especially when you are faced with wedding superstitions that can make you sit down, ponder and laugh.
But that reaction is common only for women in the western world. Women in other parts of the globe really do take these superstitions seriously for fear that it might cause a strain in their relationships with older family members who insist they be followed. Other women however believe them with their free will.
Deciding on a day for your wedding can be difficult even if there are only seven days in a week. Blame this difficulty on beliefs that says Saturday is the best day to marry, as traditionally it is a work-free day allowing your guests to come to your wedding. The next best days for a wedding are Mondays for health and Tuesdays for wealth.
If you think it's hard enough to choose a day to get married then wait till you hear what marrying in the wrong month can bring you. The month of June is not only a popular month to wed but it is also a lucky month to get married. June coincides with the month when Juno, the Greek goddess of love, was honored by both the Greeks and the Romans. April can bring joy to both bride and groom while December is always a good time to marry if you want your love to last.
May is however a no-no for a wedding as it is the month when the feast of the dead is celebrated by the Romans. February might be the month of love but you might dread it if you get married at this time of the year. The same goes for March when the winds blow both joy and sorrow or July which signals poverty for the union. November is bleak for weddings so do not dare.
Superstition dictates that if you are not afraid of changes then hold your wedding in August. Marrying in the month of September will make your life rich, while planning a wedding for October will bring you more love but lesser riches.
