Wedding ceremony Traditions and superstitions Wedding ceremony Traditions and superstitions
Author: Dean1986

Bride and groom anticipate the wedding ceremony because it formalizes their union as husband and wife. However, some ceremonies are affected and altered because of the traditional beliefs of people. Here are some of the superstitions practiced by some couple.

Brides having their menstrual period on the wedding day signify children in the life of the couple. The belief originated from the old ones, although none so far has confirmed factual evidence. Another superstitious belief that has been carried on even to the modern brides is the wearing of pearls as an accessory. Old people believe that pearl delivers good luck and will make the marriage healthy and harmonious.

A heirloom rosary is often brought by the bride along with her bouquet when she walks through the aisle. This is part of the traditional belief of the old people that says heirloom rosary implies firm faith and appeals guidance from God and Virgin Mary throughout their marriage.

For brides wanting to make their husband submissive, a traditional practice suggests that you will have to step on the foot of your groom as you walk through the altar. Brides are also discouraged to fit their wedding gown prior to the wedding day. Many believe that it calls for bad luck, mostly some cases wherein the wedding can never be pushed through.

If there are some traditional beliefs about the brides, there are also some superstitious beliefs intended for the groom. Grooms must arrive first in the wedding location, at least before the brides makes her way there. This has been a constant practice because many believe that once this is violated, a bad luck can occur. The concept though does not only concentrate on the so called superstitions. Being the groom, he is really expected to come early on their venue to check on the accuracy of some wedding details. It also shows his quality of being a gentleman.

Even the wedding ceremony is incorporated with some embellishments that symbolize something. All wedding symbols must be taken cared properly. People believe that once any of the symbols, such as wedding ring or veil are dropped or damaged, the couple will suffer from sorrow and unhappiness. Accidental breakage of plates, goblets, or glasses during the reception is said to bring abundance and good fortune to the couple.

These said superstitious beliefs are all part of traditions and customs. It is true that some of these might seem too hard to believe, but most couples decide to incorporate and follow the superstition just to play safe. Anyway, there is nothing wrong when safeguarding your marriage.
